254 x 76 x 51mm Cellulose Gusset Bag x 100
PACK QUANTITY: 100 Bags Per Pack
MATERIAL: Compostable Cellulose - NatureFlex™
VOLUME: holds approx. 650g of rice
Pack of 100 biodegradable and compostable food grade bags (with a gusset to accommodate extra volume) totally clear, cellulose (cellophane) crimp bottom bags.
Suitable for a range of general retail and ecommerce packaging, not just for food use. Ideal as alternatives to conventional petrochemical plastic bags for businesses looking to move away from using old carbon (Polyprop and PVC etc).
Measuring approximately 254 x 76 x 51mm, these cellulose gusset bag will hold approx. 650g of rice. For heavier amounts we recommend strengthening the bottom crimp seal with tape or our sealers for extra security.
These bags are made in the UK from NatureFlex™ film that has been accredited compostable for both Industrial and Home Composting to 'EN 13432' and 'OK Compost Home'. They are also approved for Anaerobic digestion to ISO 15985. The film has also been tested to ensure that once composted there are no adverse (ecotoxic) effects on future plant growth to maintain a closed carbon loop.
Storage: To maximise shelf life, keep film dry and below 30ºC (ideally between 17-23ºC) and away from local heat source or direct sunlight.
Dimensions are approximate, +/- 5mm.
(Please note, in the interest of hygiene we can only accept returns of food grade cellulose bags that have not been opened. We are happy to supply samples for you to try before you buy.)
NatureFlex™ film is made in the UK from cellulose derived from renewable wood pulp, making them a more eco-friendly packaging alternative to current polypropylene, PVC bags etc. Although not as tough as conventional petro-chemical based plastic bags our cellulose bags are more robust than our standard biofilm PLA card bags, making them more suitable for food use or bulkier items. They are available as plain crimp bags or with a gusset for extra volume to accommodate larger products. The cellulose film is coated with a thin 'PVdC' coating (food barrier) making them suitable for food use and for heat sealing. They can be sealed using a normal heat sealer or by using our compostable sealers (clear / printed self adhesive labels). For anyone new to compostable bags - the thing to avoid is prolonged exposure to humidity - avoiding excessive heat, moisture and light which will help maximise shelf life. These bags require heat, moisture and micro-organisms present to start the composting process- if a bag is splashed with water they don't start to degrade immediately. If wiped off straight away they should come to no harm.)
Our cellulose bags are both biodegradable and compostable which means that they break down to CO2, H20 and biomass (without ecotoxic effects) which can then be reused in the eco system to make new plants. This will happen in either home or commercial composting but in commercial composting the temperature will be higher and the process is much quicker. In a colder home composter it will just take longer. (To be most effective the composting process requires the presence of micro-organisms, moisture and a supply of oxygen so, for home composting you will need to turn the heap from time to time to aerate it.)
These bags are primarily intended for food use but we do not guarantee the suitability of these products for any specific purpose. You must conduct your own tests on products before placing orders, to ensure that they are suitable for your requirements. We are happy to supply sample products for you to run your own tests on, before ordering or you can also use our sample service before you place a large order. (All our recycled, renewable and compostable materials are natural products which are liable to variation so we advise that all orders should be checked for any variation before using them.)
COMPOSTABLE FILM - CARE & HANDLING:
Our compostable film is a natural product designed to compost at end of use. However, it is not an exact like for like replacement for Polyprop or PVC. It has different properties in use, and although it has a similar appearance, it is not as forgiving of rough treatment as the petro-chemical bags it replaces. Therefore, to get the best from compostable bags we recommend that they should be kept away from high temperatures and humidity, which along with careful handling and the correct storage will avoid damage to its appearance and maximise shelf life.
COMPOSTABLE FILM – END OF LIFE:
The compostable film bags we supply are designed to allow end users to compost them at home or for users in the hospitality or similar trades to compost them along with food waste through industrial composting collection. They are especially suited for packaging items where waste food, ink, adhesives would render separation of contaminates for conventional recycling / reuse impractical.
NatureFlex™ film is suitable for:
Incineration (thermal recovery)
NatureFlex™ film is NOT suitable for:
Mechanical recycling (it should not go in with plastic bottle recycling collections)
Paper recycling (it should not be put in with paper recycling collections)
Landfill (Although there are no adverse effects – it will remain inert and not biodegrade due to low moisture content)
NatureFlex™ film is designed for composting but that does not negate any responsibility for inappropriate disposal at the end of life. Compostabilty is not an excuse for littering the environment!

What is Cellulose?
Cellulose is a substance from a plants cell wall, this can be extracted from waste plant material to produce the bio film used in these bags. Once used, these bags will biodegrade producing CO2 and H2O, these 2 compounds are combined with sunlight and converted into energy by plants in a process called photosynthesis. The resulting tree growth can then be used to produce more bags.
