Product Overview

Pack of 1,000 153 x 74 x 45mm biodegradable (compostable) clear food grade cellulose bags with stronger folded and sealed base and a gusset to accommodate extra volume.

Suitable for a range of general retail and ecommerce packaging, not only for food use. Ideal as alternatives to conventional petrochemical plastic bags for businesses looking to move away from using old carbon (Polyprop and PVC etc). This new style of bag has a re-enforced bottom, that has been folded over and heat-sealed to give extra strength to the base as compared to our standard crimp seal bags.

These clear cellulose bags are made from NatureFlex™ film that has been accredited compostable to 'BS EN 13432' and 'OK Compost'. They are also approved for Anaerobic digestion (ISO 15985). The film has also been tested to ensure that once composted there are no adverse (ecotoxic) effects on future plant growth to maintain a closed carbon loop.

NatureFlex™ film is made in the UK from cellulose derived from renewable wood pulp, and although not as tough as petro-chemical based PVC bags, these cellulose bags are more robust than our standard bio-based PLA card bags, making them more suitable for food use or bulkier items. The cellulose film is coated with a thin 'PVdC' coating making them suitable for food use and for heat sealing. They can be sealed using a normal heat sealer or by using our compostable adhesive sealers. For anyone new to compostable bags - the thing to avoid is prolonged exposure to humidity - avoiding excessive heat, moisture and light which will help maximise shelf life. These bags require heat, moisture and micro-organisms present to start the composting process- if a bag is splashed with water they don't start to degrade immediately. If wiped off straight away they should come to no harm.)

Storage: Keep dry and below 30ºC (ideally between 17-23ºC) and away from local heat source or direct sunlight.
Dimensions are approximate, +/- 5mm.

(Please note, in the interest of hygiene we can only accept returns of food grade cellulose bags that have not been opened. We are happy to supply samples for you to try before you buy.)

BIODEGRADATION INFO:
These renewable, bio-based cellulose bags are accredited compostable to EN13432 which means that they biodegrade down to CO2, H20 and biomass which can then be reused in the eco system to make new plants. This will happen in either in home or commercial composting but in commercial composting the temperature will be higher and the process is much quicker. In a colder home composter it will just take longer.

PRODUCT SUITABILITY:
These bags are primarily intended for food use but we do not guarantee the suitability of these products for any specific purpose. You must conduct your own tests on products before placing orders, to ensure that they are suitable for your requirements. We are happy to supply sample products for you to run your own tests on, before ordering or you can also use our sample service before you place a large order. (All our recycled, renewable and compostable materials are natural products which are liable to slight variations, so we advise that all orders should be checked for suitability before using them.)

COMPOSTABLE FILM - CARE & HANDLING:
Bio-based film is a natural product designed to compost at end of use. However, it is not an exact like for like replacement for Polyprop or PVC. It has different properties in use, and although it has a similar appearance, it is not as forgiving of rough treatment as the petro-chemical bags it replaces. Therefore, to get the best from compostable bags we recommend that they should be kept away from high temperatures and humidity, which along with careful handling and the correct storage will avoid damage to its appearance and maximise shelf life. If a bag is splashed with water they don't start to degrade immediately. If wiped off straight away they should come to no harm.

COMPOSTABLE FILM – END OF LIFE:
The Compostable film bags we supply are designed to allow end users to compost them at home or for users in the hospitality or similar trades to compost them along with food waste through industrial composting collection. They are especially suited for packaging items where waste food, ink, adhesives would render separation of contaminates for conventional recycling / reuse impractical.

NatureFlex™ film is suitable for:
Industrial Composting
Home Composting
Anaerobic Digestion
Incineration (thermal recovery)

NatureFlex™ film is NOT suitable for:
Mechanical recycling (it should not go in with plastic bottle recycling collections)
Paper recycling (it should not be put in with paper recycling collections)
Landfill (Although there are no adverse effects – it will remain inert and not biodegrade due to low moisture content)

LITTERING:
NatureFlex™ film is designed for composting but that does not negate any responsibility for inappropriate disposal at the end of life. Compostabilty is not an excuse for littering the environment!

What is Cellulose?

Cellulose is a substance from a plants cell wall, this can be extracted from waste plant material to produce the bio film used in these bags. Once used, these bags will biodegrade producing CO2 and H2O, these 2 compounds are combined with sunlight and converted into energy by plants in a process called photosynthesis. The resulting tree growth can then be used to produce more bags.
